SLATE HISTORICAL INFORMATION : This slate came from a 1860's Summer Kitchen in Stoutsville, Ohio. It was used as roofing shingles and was taken off when the kitchen was torn down. This kitchen was the site of canning, drying, smoking, pickling, butchering, summer cooking along with laundry and soap making. Early pioneers produced almost all of their own food, consequently, much time was spent in preservation of food for winter months.
